We will tour the gardens and have the option to “Pick your own bouquet”

Container Gardening from Fall to the Christmas Holidays with Allison Lexi from The Marblehead Garden Center

@ The Dory Club, Tudor Wharf

Allison will demonstrate how you can add an evergreen  miniature to the center of planters with fall planting’s  surrounding and then just switch out the fall for Christmas  easily cutting cost and time for gardeners.

*The Designed Containers will be raffled off at the end of the Program.

Come join us for a private tour of the Gardens of Elm Bank (The Cheney Estate) which has historic and contemporary gardens and is also Home to the Massachusetts Horticultural Society. *Minimum of 15 people is required for the Field Trip or it will be cancelled.

The Great Pumpkin Contest

Members are asked to be creative in the spirt of Halloween and create their own Pumpkin entry, either carved or decorated, with one of the following themes: 1. Scary 2. Flower Power or 3. Historic.  Join the Fun and Mingle with fellow members to select the Best of Show. A raffle will be held after Best of Show is awarded in each

Learn to make a Boxwood Tree for the Holidays and Take it Home that Day.  Greens and Festive Decorations for the Tree are included.

Field Trip – Christmas in Salem

Ring in the Holiday Season with 39th Annual Christmas in Salem House Tour in the Historic Derby Street Neighborhood.  We will  visit the Salem Garden Club Boutique at the House of Seven  Gables for Holiday items and then go onto view historic the  homes decked out in all the Holiday Glory.

Ken Turino of Historic New England will be speaking about  Christmas time during the 1600s to 1900s. We will learn how  the use of what is now referred to as “Holiday Greens” came to  be as well as much more during his talk.

Workshop - NGC No Fail Flower Arrangement

This is a hands-on workshop.  You will learn how to make 3 "No Fail Flower Arrangements" that will enhance any table setting year around.

*Participates need to bring:  An Apron, pruning - floral shears, and a Lazy Susan.

NGC Field Trip –Philadelphia Flower Show

The Nahant Garden Club is assessing members' interest in attending the Philadelphia Flower Show.  We are asking that you respond back if you are interested in attending, as we are finessing some of the details.  

The dates would be either March 1-3, 2019 (2 nights), or March 1-4, 2019 (3 nights).The trip would include round-trip airfare from Boston to Philadelphia, your hotel, and admission to the Flower Show.

The PHS Philadelphia Flower Show at the Pennsylvania

Convention Center is the world's oldest and largest indoor flower show, attracting more than 260,000 visitors annually.  There is much to do besides attending this phenomenal spring event. Side tours will be offered in this historic city, and there will be great food and camaraderie.

NGC Arbor Day Celebration & Time for Plant Propagation Presentation

@ The Nahant Life Saving Station  

Joe Rajunas is a retired chemist will provide an overview of  the methods plant propagation Included will be a  discussion of seed collection, plant breeding, and  nomenclature and a description of several methods of  propagation, such as division, cuttings, layering, grafting,  and cell culture.  Additionally, the Arbor Day Award will be  given to honor (or remember posthumously) a member  who, not only is dedicated to the club, but to the  community as well.

Come and purchase an array of Beautiful Plants (Annuals, House plants, Herbs, Perennials, and Vegetables) at the  Annual Plant Sale.  Proceeds to benefit various Garden Club  Programs and Town Projects.

*Remember this is a great time to divide your plants and donate those divisions to the Plant Sale!

Hip Hip Hydrangeas! with Andi Ross & NGC Bacheller Memorial Tray Award

@ The Nahant Village Church  

This is a complete “how to” program starting with clear  instructions for identifying the hydrangeas you have.  Best care  includes siting, planting, pruning each type, color management,  watering, cutting & preserving.

Additionally, the Rosemary Bacheller Memorial Tray is given  once a year in Rosemary’s honor to a Nahant Garden Club  member in recognition of devoted service, who has exemplified  outstanding dedication to the Club as well having contributed  generously of time, spirt, and energy.

Learn about wreaths while participating in making the Town of Nahant’s Memorial Day Wreaths.  The Nahant Garden Club places wreaths at various Veteran Memorial sites though-out Nahant, in addition to one which is part of the Sea Ceremony at the Nahant Wharf.

NGC Field Trip – Beauport, the Sleeper-McCann House, Gloucester 

Transportation Member Car Pooling @ St Thomas Aquinas Church 

We will be able to get a glimpse of the private domain of Henry Davis Sleeper. The garden, like the house itself, evolved over several decades in the early 1900s. Today the landscape still looks as it did in the late 1920s & early 1930s,  when the grounds best reflected Sleeper’ s plans. $10.00 per person – (tour fee) minimum of 15 people required for the Field Trip or it will be cancelled
